There are 5 Micromouse races that you can enter:

  • Line following
  • Drag Race
  • Wall following
  • Maze solving
  • Time trial
Line following

In this "race", you must follow the white line without falling off, round a circular course that brings you back to the beginning.
The winner is the mouse that completes the circuit in the shortest time.
You get 3 goes at it, and your best time counts.

Drag race

This is a knock-out competition. The winner is the one who wins all their heats.
You don't get a second chance!. The course is a straight line 7 meters long. 
There are two tracks side by side, and two mice compete at a time.
You start on a start signal, and are disqualified for a false start.
You get a penalty for not stopping at the end!

Wall following

This is a timed competition like line following. The winner is the one who completes the course in the shortest time.
The course is a sequence of straight corridors, left and right turns and U-turns. 
There is only one path to the end of the maze and you follw the left hand wall.
There is only one mouse competing at a time.
The timing starts when you start.

Time Trial

In this "race", you must follow a corridor, round a rectangular or figure-of-eight course that brings you back to the beginning.
The winner is the mouse that completes the circuit in the shortest time.
For a rectangular course you follow the left wall, and turn right 4 times.
For a figure of eight course, you must turn Right,left,left,left,left,right,right,
- to get back to the beginning

Maze solving

This is a timed run to the centre of the maze.
On the early runs, the robot has to find the correct sequence of turns to get there.
For the last run, it uses the stored sequence to get to the middle as fast as possible.
